About New England Sculpture Service

We are primarily a lost-wax bronze foundry that casts fine art sculpture. Located in the Boston metro area, we are the only commercial art foundry in Massachusetts. Established in 1991 by James Montgomery (managing partner) and Donald S. Marks (partner), our customers are themselves sculptors.

We cast silicon bronze into ceramic shell investment. Depending on need, we do as much or as little as required: rubber molds, waxwork, rough casting, finish casting, chasing and patina . . . from small to heroic scale, as well as repair and restoration. We concentrate on personalized service.

Our nine ( . . . and growing number of) employees are trained sculptors. The Boston area with its many art schools provides us a ready pool of qualified employees.

In our fifteenth year we have connected with most Massachusetts' sculptors working in bronze, many from throughout New England and beyond. As sculptors ourselves, we take pride in preserving the artist's creative vision in the finished bronze.

Pricing Policies

Ideally, sculptures should be brought to our facilty for an Estimate. Several factors determine pricing including:

Size
Obviously, very large pieces generally cost more. However, small pieces may seem disproportionately higher priced. This reflects the complexity of small pieces and the fixed costs of producing any piece.

Molds
If sculptors have existing molds of sufficient quality, we can use them in the casting process. The quality of the finished work directly relates to the quality of the mold. We will generate a separate price for the mold.

Complexity
A piece may be more or less complex and prices reflects the labor costs to accommodate such complexities.

Edition Size
Most of our casting is for unique works. Sometimes, editions may be discounted if labor savings occur.

At this time all estimates are personally given by Jim Montgomery and may include factors other than those listed above.
